The Yellowstone prequel, 1923, is finally coming to cable. As Yellowstone winds down to its season (and possible series) finale, another generation of Duttons is taking over the airwaves as the Paramount+ streaming original 1923 makes its way to Paramount Network for the first time.
The show, starring Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford as Jacob and Cara Dutton (Jacob is the brother of 1883‘s James Dutton), will debut on Paramount Network—the home of Yellowstone—on Sunday, December 8, 2024 at 9 p.m. eastern, immediately following Yellowstone, with additional episodes to follow weekly.
The show aired its first season on Paramount+ in 2023. A new season recently wrapped filming and will likely debut in early 2025.
What is 1923 about?
Set in 1920s Montana, 1923 “introduce[s] a new generation of the Dutton family and explore the early 20th century when pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition, and the Great Depression all plague the Mountain West, and the Duttons who call it home.”
“This is the story of what it has taken to survive, for that person to survive its complicated moral context and it’s a juicy, juicy story and I love it,” Ford said of 1923 during the show’s premiere.
“We’re presenting a couple who [in a] relationship [that] when it’s gone that long becomes a partnership,” Mirren added. “And so, they are partners as much as anything, of course, they’re husband and wife but their real kind of equal partners in which you would have to be dealing with that kind of environment.”
The show also stars Darren Mann, Michelle Randolph, James Badge Dale, Marley Shelton, Brian Geraghty, Aminah Nieves, and Jerome Flynn.
“These are two people with a very strong bond to each other who are facing really complicated circumstances,” Ford told Vanity Fair. “Their lives are totally wrapped up in each other. There’s very little that sustains them other than themselves and the hard work and investment they put into their future and their family. It is a tough life, and it’s full of not just physical challenges but moral ones as well.”

For those who do not have the streaming service, the show will also air on Paramount Network beginning on Sunday, December 8, 2024 at 9 p.m. eastern.

Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2, said to be its last ever, consists of six episodes. Assuming there are no schedule interruptions, Yellowstone‘s Season 5 Part 2 finale would air on Sunday, December 15.
