‘1923’ Season 2 Just Got an EXCITING UPDATE
1923 season 2 gets a production update, returning to its Montana location after a setback. The popular Yellowstone prequel, led by Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren in their respective roles as Jacob and Cara Dutton, began filming on the strike-delayed 1923 season 2 in July. The news comes after the Paramount+ drama has revealed new casting details, along with new story details that point to the show taking a potentially darker turn.
NBC Montana confirms that the upcoming episodes of 1923 season 2 will film some scenes in Butte, Montana. The report notes that even though most of the filming so far has taken place in Austin, Texas, production will be moving up to Montana next month. It is expected that filming will last for about a month, taking place at a ranch, the Civic Center, and a couple of places in Uptown Butte. This is expected to start somewhere between the middle to late October.

Season 1 Also Filmed In Butte
At a cost that was predicted to be somewhere between $30 to $35 million per episode, 1923 season 1 filmed several scenes in Butte since it was viewed as a stand-in for Montana. Although the production had a global flair, with scenes shot in Malta, Kenya, Tanzania, and South Africa, the return to Butte ensures some level of filming continuity when the show returns.
1923 season 2 does not have a release date or even a release window announced at this point. But given the update on filming, and considering the time it would take to promote the show’s return after a long delay, the prequel likely won’t be back with new episodes until 2025. But there is some info on new actors joining the 1923 cast.
Our Take On 1923 Season 2’s Developments So Far
It’s Coming Along Nicely
Following the end of 1923 season 1, in which Cara and Jacob make a difficult decision regarding their ranch, 1923 season 2 has added a trio of actors. Augustus Prew, who played Médhor in Prime Video’s Lord of the Rings series, will recur as a dapper British man named Paul. He joins fellow recurring actors Jennifer Carpenter and Janet Montgomery, both new additions to the series.
The prequel, executive produced and created by Taylor Sheridan, is entering a new phase of storytelling as Cara and Jacob face a difficult new reality. Despite the time off between seasons, the wait should be worth it considering the positive reception to season 1 and all of the talent involved. Although the wait for more episodes may take some time, there will be a lot to pick up on when 1923 finally returns.
