‘1923’ Season 2 Review: Explosive First Episodes and Shocking Twists You Won’t See Coming

We got an exclusive look at ‘1923’ season 2’s first episodes—and it’s packed with shocking surprises

1923 season 1 was one of the most talked-about streaming shows of 2022 due to its elaborate costume design, storylines filled with twists and turns and complex cast of characters. It was released following Taylor Sheridan’s massively successful 2018 to 2024 series, Yellowstone, which had previously spawned a prequel in the form of 2021’s 1883.

For its part, 1923 follows the Dutton family as they deal with life on their Montana-based ranch amid great historical moments like The Great Depression, Prohibition and Western Expansion. The various elements came together in a creative tapestry to create a masterpiece that had viewers on the edge of their saddles, needing to know what would happen next. And now, after three years of waiting, we finally know what dangerous debacles the Dutton family is going to be getting into in season 2.

Woman’s World recently got an exclusive look at the first three episodes of the upcoming season—entitled “The Killing Season,” “The Rapist is Winter,” and “Wrap Thee in Terror”—and trust us when we say you haven’t seen anything yet.

Not only does the newest season start with a violent, vicious and aggressive bang that never lets up, but it is also filled with vivid details in terms of props, sets and dialogue that make for an unforgettable second installment. Below, we have gathered details on our favorite parts of the 1923 season 2, including what viewers can expect from movie star Harrison Ford. Read on for more and beware: there are spoilers below!

In season 1 of 1923, Spencer Dutton (Brandon Sklenar) and Alexandra of Sussex (Julia Schlaepfer) meet while on an African safari, fall head over heels in love with each other and end up married.

Sadly, though, their bliss is cut short because one night, while aboard a ship, Spencer fights with Alexandra’s ex-fiancé, Arthur, the Earl of Sussex (Bruce Davison), and pushes him overboard. Spencer is then forcibly removed from the ship, separating him from his bride and forcing the two of them to discover who they want to become and how powerful they can be.

Now, with an entire ocean between them, viewers begin to discover what the couple will do for love, all while wondering if they can ever meet again in Montana. It is an exhilarating plotline filled with scenic destinations and life-threatening side quests that really show just how powerful love can be.

Teoona Rainwater is rage-filled and ready

Teonna Rainwater’s (Aminah Nieves) journey in season 1 was quite treacherous. After being forced into a Christian boarding school, she was then tortured mentally, physically and emotionally, all in an attempt to rid her of the Native American culture inside her.

Teonna soon snaps and kills her abuser, Sister Mary (Jennifer Ehle), before escaping to find her people. The arc as a whole is pretty gruesome and hard to watch, but at the same time, it’s so refreshing to see a woman on TV not apologizing for her actions and instead justifies them in an authentic and real way.

In the past, when a woman “acts out” to try and give herself some much-deserved freedom, she is often ridiculed, called derisive names and forced to feel guilty, even if it wasn’t her fault. Not Teonna, though. She knows what she did was the only way for her to get what she needed and based on the first three episodes of season 2, it seems like she won’t be apologizing for that anytime soon—which is such a breath of fresh air.

The Duttons look out for their own

If there is one thing the Duttons do better than anyone else, it’s look after their own. In 1923 season 1, we see that in the form of Cara’s (Helen Mirren) relationship with her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth (Michelle Randolph), and Jacob’s (Ford)  mentor-mentee connection with Zane Davis (Brian Geraghty).

In season 2, those connections grow deeper as the Duttons begin to deal with the Davis family being found guilty of breaking Montana’s anti-miscegenation law prohibiting interracial marriage and the impending—and sometimes deadly—winter weather.

Filled with hilarious—and sometimes horrifying—dialogue and a family you can root for, these plotlines will have season 2 viewers saying, “This feels like the classic Harrison Ford hero we all know and love.”
