Kevin Costner: “Wait, I’m DEAD?!?” — Shocking Yellowstone Finale Leaves Star Speechless!
Yellowstone season 5 spoilers follow.
Kevin Costner has reacted to his Yellowstone character John Dutton’s shocking exit from the show.
The series returned for the second half of its final season over the weekend (November 10), in which Dutton was killed off after being found with a gunshot wound to the head.
While it appeared that he had died by suicide, it was later revealed that Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri) had taken a hit on him and got the killer to make it look like suicide.
Speaking on SiriusXM, Coster revealed that he had yet to watch the episode, saying: “I didn’t see it. I heard it’s a suicide, so that doesn’t make me want to rush to go see it.”
“I’m going to be perfectly honest. I didn’t know it was actually airing last night,” he added. “I didn’t realise yesterday was the thing.
“Sometimes I’m like just a passenger in my life. There’s a lot going on. And somebody said, you know, it played last night? And I said, ‘Hmm, okay’. So no, I found out about it this morning actually.”
Addressing the idea of Dutton dying by suicide, he added: “Well, they’re pretty smart people. Maybe it’s a red herring. Who knows? They’re very good. And they’ll figure that out.”
Following the scenes airing, fans shared their reactions online over the plot decision, many expressing outrage over the nature of the character’s exit.
It comes after Costner’s exit from the series amid reported behind-the-scenes drama, with the actor officially confirming back in June that he would be leaving.
“It was something that really changed me,” he told fans. “I loved it, and I know you loved it. And I just wanted to let you know that I won’t be returning. And I love the relationship that we’ve been able to develop, and I’ll see you at the movies.”
