Inside ‘Yellowstone’ Creator Taylor Sheridan’s $600 Million Texas Ranch Empire

Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan is sitting pretty on a ranch empire estimated to be worth a staggering $600million.

Besides penning the Paramount Plus hit (and a bunch of spin-off series), the prolific television writer, 54, has spent the best part of a decade masterminding his lucrative property kingdom in Texas.

Sheridan is the owner of two Texas ranches, the 600-acre Bosque Ranch and the Four Sixes Ranch.

According to reports, he splits his time before the two sprawling sites – which are both used as Yellowstone filming locations.

The Bosque Ranch, located in Weatherford, is said to be where Sheridan spends most of his time.

He purchased the property in 2013 for an eye-watering $264million as a base for his family when they relocated to Texas from Los Angeles.

‘I left LA the second I could get out,’ he told Cowboys & Indians in 2020 about his decision to move from the city after marrying his wife, actress Nicole Muirbrook.

‘My wife’s from up in Wyoming, and my mother lives up there, so we moved there for a number of years, until I finally convinced her to come try my home state.

‘I moved her to Texas on August 1, because I figured I might as well just pull the Band-Aid off quick.

‘She didn’t understand the heat for a bit, but then she figured it out, and now she’s a Texan.’

The couple, along with their 14-year-old son, Gus, now split their time between his two ranches.

And the showrunner is laughing all the way to the bank, having used the Bosque Ranch as one of the filming locations for Yellowstone, and charging Paramount Plus a pretty penny to do so.

Sheridan has charged Paramount Network to film Yellowstone at the ranch

According to the Wall Street Journal, he charged the network $50,000 a week to shoot there.

Prior to filming Yellowstone’s fifth season, Sheridan also held a cowboy training camp there, which reportedly cost Paramount an additional $214,979.

According to reports, the showrunner charged Paramount $50,000 per week to use as a filming location for the show

The publication reports that during the camp, actors are taught how to work with horses and realistically depict ranch life over the course of one week.

They added that approximately $33,000 of that fee was just for catering.

On top of serving as a filming location for the Western show and as Sheridan’s home, the spacious ranch also has a large arena – which has played host to numerous events – and a restaurant called Nic’s bar.

The Bosque Ranch is home to hundreds of cattle and horses

‘A beautiful space overlooking the arena offers its premiere members and patrons a local spot for drinks, food, and dancing, while also offering a private event space to host cast and crew parties, special events, and more in an authentic, warm environment and crafted cocktails,’ a description on its website reads.

‘Once you experience this spot you will become a regular while still experiencing something new each time.’

Sheridan bought his second ranch, the Four Sixes Ranch, in January 2022 along with a group of investors for a whopping $350 million.

The 266,255-plus acre property is situated in King County.

The ranch sits on over 142,000 acres east of Lubbock

Originally established in 1870 by Captain Samuel “Burk” Burnett, Four Sixes Ranch is said to be among ‘the most storied businesses in Texas history’.

According to its website, the ranch is home to a breeding herd of about 6,000-7,000 Angus cattle and some of the ‘most well-respected stallions in the industry’.

The property, about 20 miles long and 12 miles wide, was previously owned by Anne Burnett Marion

The property will be familiar with Yellowstone fans as it appears in the show’s fourth season when Jimmy Hurdstram was sent off the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch and brought to the Four Sixes by Travis Wheatley to learn what it means to be a cowboy.

Yellowstone lovers can drop by the Four Sixes Ranch for a one-and-a-half hour tour.
