“No. We’re done talking,” he replied.
Costner’s remarks come on the heels of Grimes revealing that the pair haven’t spoken since Costner’s abrupt exit from the show midway through production on the fifth and final season of “Yellowstone,” spurring the rumors of a rift.
“I haven’t talked to him since,” Grimes told Men’s Health MH Flex in a profile published on Tuesday. “It’s not a case of any hard feelings or anything. It’s just, he’s Kevin Costner.”
“He’s a big deal,” Grimes continued. “I do have his phone number — I just don’t feel like it’s my place to reach out. He can reach out to me if he wants to.”
Costner, who played Dutton family patriarch John Dutton on the hit show, made his departure to focus on directing and starring in his two “Horizon: An American Saga” films.
Reports also circulated that Costner’s exit was fueled by a feud with “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan. The star, however, denied any bad blood between the two.
According to Grimes, the “Yellowstone” cast was shocked by Costner’s decision to leave.
“None of us saw it coming the way it did, and obviously there was news about possible blowups behind the scenes or whatever,” Grimes told Men’s Health. “But just like in life, man, these things happen, they happen fast, and they’re not predictable.”
Earlier this month, the “Fifty Shades of Grey” actor said that filming the second half of Season 5 was easier without Costner.
“Hopefully everyone can see that it was time,” Grimes said in an interview with Esquire. “To be really honest, there was a part of Kevin being gone that meant some of the conflict was gone.”
“Obviously, it didn’t make it super fun to be around,” Grimes added. “Not pointing any fingers, but it was actually the easiest season we’ve filmed.”
Costner’s character was killed off in a murder-for-hire plot in the Season 5 Part 2 premiere, which aired on Nov. 10. The following day, the actor said he learned the news that morning.
“I didn’t see it. I heard it’s a suicide,” Costner said on SiriusXM’s “The Michael Smerconish Program.”
“That doesn’t make me wanna rush to go see it.”
Just a few days later, he acknowledged that the decision over what happened to John Dutton was entirely their call.
“Who am I? They do what they want,” Costner said at the 2024 Governors Awards on Nov. 17. “That’s fine with me.”
The “Yellowstone” series finale has divided fans since it aired.
Speaking to the show’s controversial ending, series director and producer Christina Alexandra Voros recently told The Post, “My understanding is that this is always where we were going.”
