‘Landman’ Star Billy Bob Thornton Reveals Demi Moore’s Extended Role in Season 2

Paramount+ recently streamed the season finale of Landman, the newest show created by Taylor Sheridan. Since its premiere in November, Landman has found incredible success, beating out shows like Squid Game (Season 2) for being one of the most popular and viewed shows on streaming in December and January.

Sheridan’s universe of television shows on Paramount+ has found varying levels of popularity, attracting huge stars to lead series like Tulsa King and Special Ops: Lioness (Sylvester Stallone, Zoe Saldaña, Frank Grillo, Nicole Kidman, Morgan Freeman, and more).

Demi Moore Landman

Landman has just as impressive a cast of actors, albeit some are more underused than others. Case in point: Demi Moore, who plays Cami, the wife of Monty (Jon Hamm), barely plays a role in the first season. While there hasn’t been any official announcement regarding a renewal, series star Billy Bob Thornton is confident that Moore will play a bigger role in future seasons. In an interview with Deadline, the actor said, “I think definitely if there were to be a second season, Demi will figure into it greatly.”

Demi Moore has received plenty of attention, not just for her minimal role in Landman, but also for her astounding performance in the 2024 horror film The Substance, which earned the actor multiple award nominations (so far, she’s won a Golden Globe for the film).

The twisted body horror film highlights a different and unexpected side of Moore’s talent and further proves that the Paramount+ series hasn’t utilized her to her fullest capability. Should Landman get a Season 2 renewal, the series and writer Taylor Sheridan have a chance to give her a more expanded role.

‘Landman’ Season 2 Could Show a New Side of Demi Moore’s Character

Billy Bob Thornton isn’t the only creative from the show who believes Moore’s character could play a bigger role. Series co-creator/executive producer Christian Wallace told TVLine that he thinks the character could become a real power player in the show, especially following the death of her husband in the season finale. Wallace explained:

“Cami is definitely a force to be reckoned with, and we haven’t exactly gotten to see her, like you mentioned, really exert that power and influence, because she’s been in a very different role in the first season. And so, if the story were to continue, it would be very interesting to see what Cami’s role would be in this world when she’s the person closer to the top and is making these decisions in a world that is still mostly populated by men.”

Wallace even acknowledged Moore’s incredible talent as an actor, especially following her Golden Globe win, saying a more involved role of power and influence in the series for her character would “be just a very interesting role for her to play, moving forward. And especially having Demi play that character, who is also at the peak of her powers? I think that would just be kind of incredible to watch.”

Whatever the future holds for Landman, the series has plenty more stories to tell, especially given the shift in leadership in the Texas oil industry by the end of the first season. Taylor Sheridan continues to craft compelling Western dramas with modern and inspired backdrops, and having Demi Moore play a critical role in future episodes would undoubtedly help Landman stand out in the sea of streaming titles currently available to watch.
