1923 season 2 has added another familiar face to its cast, revealing details about a new character. The hit spinoff from franchise creator Taylor Sheridan’s expanding Yellowstone universe features Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, serving as a sequel to 1883. The story centers around the Dutton family during the titular year, which was a time of historical events that included Western Expansion, Prohibition, and the Great Depression. Bolstered by strong ratings and good reviews, 1923 season 2 was confirmed by Paramount+ in February 2023, but new episodes of the Western drama were delayed after the writers and actors strikes.
Jennifer Carpenter has joined the cast of Yellowstone prequel 1923‘s second season. According to Deadline, Carpenter will be joining series regulars Harrison Ford and Dame Helen Mirren to play the new character Mamie Fossett in streaming service Paramount+’s new episodes.
The character is described as ahead of her time for her willingness to issue warrants at will and take down anyone who opposes the Marshals.
Carpenter is probably best known for playing Debra Morgan in both the original Dexter series and its 2021 miniseries revival Dexter: New Blood.
With filming on the spinoff underway, Deadline confirms that the upcoming season has added its second new cast member and recruited New Amsterdam star Janet Montgomery to recur as Hillary. The character is described as a thoughtful woman who does not want to see injustice go unpunished, and it’s the latest on-screen change to 1923 following the addition of Dexter alum Jennifer Carpenter.
Montgomery is best known for her role as Dr. Lauren Bloom in the NBC medical drama New Amsterdam, a character she played from the show’s debut in 2018 until its 2023 conclusion after five seasons. She’s also recognizable for her recurring part on This Is Us as Olivia Maine, one of the early love interests for Kevin Pearson (played by Justin Hartley). She also played the lead character of Mary in the supernatural horror series Salem and recurred on HBO’s Entourage as Jennie.
‘Yellowstone’s Prequel Series Finally Gets an Update 2 Years After Premiere
Fans of Yellowstone’s spin-off series 1923 have another reason to celebrate, as Paramount has confirmed that production on Season Two is officially underway. Although it had been reported in some outlets that work was ongoing, this is the first official confirmation from the studio that filming has started.
What Will Season 2 of ‘1923’ Be About?
Season 2 of 1923 will take viewers further into the Dutton family history, and continue the storylines from the first season. Following Teonna Rainwater’s harrowing escape, her struggle to evade dangerous pursuers will likely play a key role, while Spencer and Alexandra’s separation was a tasty cliffhanger left over.
Meanwhile, the Duttons face even more bother from Donald Whitfield, a powerful enemy who is, for some reason, dead-set on dismantling Jacob and Cara Dutton’s legacy and taking what is theirs, while the Duttons won’t stand for it. Now we know where John gets it from.
Created by Taylor Sheridan, 1923 is just one of many series in the showrunner’s Paramount+ arsenal. As well as Yellowstone, Sheridan is also the creator of Mayor Of Kingstown, Lawmen: Bass Reeves, 1883, Tulsa King and Lioness, and the upcoming Landman. 1923 is executive produced by Sheridan, David C. Glasser, John Linson, Art Linson, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, Ben Richardson, Michael Friedman and Keith Cox, while producers on the series include MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios and Bosque Ranch Productions for Paramount+.
There is no release date for 1923 Season 2 as of now, but Season 1 is currently streaming on Paramount+.
